Is Vision Correction Right for Me?

Most likely you are a good candidate for LASIK.

All refractive errors including myopia (nearsightedness), hyperopia (farsightedness), and astigmatism can now be corrected with laser vision correction. There is no age limit for LASIK, but you should have a stable prescription for 1 year, healthy eyes, and be a minimum of 18 years of age.

The LASIK procedure has the following advantages over other procedures:

• Little chance for corneal haze or scarring
• Minimum fluctuation of vision
• Ability to CORRECT a large range of refractive errors

If you fall into any of the below categories, you may not be a candidate for Lasik. You are advised to discuss your particular situation with Dr. Bonanni. • Your age is under 18. In this case your growth phase has not been fully completed, meaning that your eyes can still change. In that case LASIK is not a good option.
• You are pregnant or nursing. Pregnancy causes changes to your hormone system. This can also cause your vision to change. It is therefore better to wait until your child is born and you have finished nursing.
• Keratoconus a corneal irregularity
• Inflammation of the eye (uveitis, blepharitis or iritis)
• Herpes simplex that has infected your eye
• Previous severe injuries on the eye
• Corneal scars or infections
• Certain medications
• Unstable refraction
• Other diseases of the eye such as AMD, diabetic retinopathy, cataract or others
